Mamaroneck School District’s Enrollment Planning/Space Challenges.
As you may be aware, Mamaroneck School District's enrollment has been growing steadily in recent years, while most area school districts show declining or flat enrollment. The District has added 650 students since 2010.
With limited instructional space and budgetary resources, the Board of Education is exploring both near-term and long-term solutions. A “flex-zone” model was presented by the District administration at the January 23 Board of Education meeting as one potential near-term solution. The model would "grandfather" all families who currently have a child attending a particular elementary school. Siblings would remain with siblings.
The Board is devoting its next meeting to a Community Conversation on Enrollment Challenges, scheduled for Tuesday, February 6 at 7:30 pm in the Hommocks Library. All community members are invited and encouraged to attend.
For further background, please read this Letter from the Mamaroneck Board of Education and visit the Enrollment Planning Section of the District website, which is updated regularly with new information.
In addition, the Board is convening a community Task Force to help study potential long-term solutions to this growing enrollment trend. Learn more about the Task Force here, and attend the Task Force Informational Meeting on Wednesday, January 31 at 7:30 pm in the Hommocks Library (or watch a video of the meeting) if you are interested in applying.
