IT IS PROHIBITED TO USE LEAF BLOWERS
IN THE VILLLAGE OF MAMARONECK
FROM MAY 15 THROUGH SEPTEMBER 30 OF EACH YEAR
Leaf blowers are banned in the Village of Mamaroneck from May 15 through September 30. Using blowers is a violation of the Village Noise Code, Chapter 254-3, R. and carries a fine for the operator of up to $250 for the first offense.
Leaf blowing contributes significantly to air pollution that endangers our health, especially for children, seniors, and those with respiratory problems. It also is a major source of high-decibel noise that is annoying and can contribute to the loss of hearing.
The use of Leaf blowers is unnecessary during warmer spring, summer and fall months because there is minimal leaf and lawn debris that is collected, as compared to the autumn leaf season. As a reminder, in order to keep our rivers and streams clean, grass clippings should not be collected or blown into the street where they end up in the storm drains. Instead, they should be left on lawns for grass-cycling, where they return nutrients to the soil and help retain moisture.
If you employ gardeners, please remind them about the seasonal ban on leaf blowing in the Village.
