The Village of Mamaroneck’s Committee for the Environment will host its Clean & Green Day on Saturday, May 1st. (In the event of rain, Clean & Green Day will take place on Sunday, May 2nd.)

Volunteers can pick up litter at various locations around the Village.

(While the Sign-Up form is now closed, all volunteers – whether they signed-up online or not – are welcome to participate.)

We encourage all volunteers to come to the Pavilion Field (NOT the Marine Education Center) at Harbor Island Park at 9:30am for some opening remarks and free giveaways. While there, you can enter a raffle to win some great prizes! (Winners must be present.) PLEASE NOTE: Trash bags, gloves, and tools will be provided at Harbor Island Park.

With the exception of the clean-up location at the intersection of South Barry Ave. & The Parkway in the Shore Acres Neighborhood, trash bags, gloves, and tools WILL NOT be provided at individual clean-up locations. Volunteers who need trash bags, gloves, and tools will need to come to Harbor Island Park at 9:30am. (If you cannot attend the opening remarks at 9:30am in Harbor Island Park, you can also meet at the individual clean-up locations around 10:00am or 10:30am but you will need to bring your own supplies.)

Compost Soil Give Back at Harbor Island Park

The Village of Mamaroneck’s Department of Public Works (DPW) will provide FREE garden compost soil to Village residents on a first come, first serve basis until supplies last. On Clean & Green Day, look for the DPW truck parked on Pavilion Field. Village of Mamaroneck residents can bring one 32-gallon receptacle between 9:00am and 12:00pm. Limit of one 32-gallon receptacle per household. Proof of Village of Mamaroneck Residency may be required.

If compost soil is still available after Clean & Green Day, residents can bring their own 32-gallon receptacle to the Village's Recycling Center at 313 Fayette Avenue to receive more compost soil during the week of May 3rd.

Get Your Food Waste Recycling Kit!

Get your Food Waste Recycling Kit at Clean & Green Day! Members of the Committee for the Environment and other volunteers will be selling Food Waste Recycling Kits for $20 (one 2-gallon countertop pail and a larger 6-gallon carry tote and 25 compostable bag liners for the pail). Also, residents can purchase rolls of liners ($2.00 for one roll of 25 compostable bags). Food waste recycling reduces waste, creates compost, and takes some foods that cannot be added to a backyard compost pile. For more information about the Village's Composting Program, click here.

Pick up a Maple Seed Sapling from the Village’s Tree Committee

Members of the Village’s Tree Committee will also have a table at Clean & Green Day. Street trees, the trees in your yard, and the trees in our parks make up the Village’s urban forest. Trees contribute to our Village’s livability and beauty. In 2010, the Village of Mamaroneck began an extensive tree replanting program, and by the Spring of 2017, had planted approximately 1,000 new trees along Village streets and within public parks. In addition to their monthly meetings, the Tree Committee hosts Nature Walks as well as Citizen Pruner Workshops that are open to Village residents. Stop by the Tree Committee table to pick up a maple seed sapling (while supplies last), plant a red maple seed in a cup to take home, and learn more information about the Tree Committee’s important work.

While trash bags, gloves, and tools will be provided at each clean-up location, volunteers are also welcome to bring their own supplies.
