Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update for April 6, 2020

MAMARONECK, New York, April 6, 2020 — We offer the following announcements for today, Monday, April 6:

USGA Postpones U.S. Open Championship to Sept. 17-20

USGA LogoThe 120th U.S. Open, which was scheduled to be held June 18-21 at Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, New York, has been postponed. The championship has been rescheduled to Sept. 17-20 at Winged Foot.

“We are hopeful that postponing the championship will offer us the opportunity to mitigate health and safety issues while still providing us with the best opportunity to conduct the U.S. Open this year,” said Mike Davis, CEO of the USGA. “We are incredibly thankful to the membership and staff at Winged Foot for their flexibility and support. We are also grateful for the wonderful collaboration among the professional tours and other majors in working through a complicated schedule.”

The USGA is currently evaluating how the postponement will affect exemption categories, and definitive changes will be communicated as soon as possible. As previously announced, the USGA will strive to conduct qualifying that fits health and safety guidelines while accommodating the rescheduled championship dates.

More information about the postponement can be found here.

New York State Department of Health COVID-19 Tracker

Landscaping Services Limited to Maintenance and Pest Control Operations Only

Pursuant to Executive Order 202.8, all non-essential businesses in New York State are required to reduce their in-person work force by 100%.  The Executive Order gave Empire State Development (esd.ny.gov) the sole authority to determine which types of businesses and activities are considered “essential”. Regarding landscaping services, Empire State Development advised that only maintenance and pest control work are considered “essential.”  Cosmetic work – for example new planting – is considered non-essential. To read the full message (in ENGLISH and SPANISH) regarding landscaping services, click here.

New York State PAUSE Enforcement Assistance Task Force

If you are aware of any non-essential businesses or entities operating, Governor Cuomo has established the New York State PAUSE Enforcement Assistance Task Force where individuals can file complaints regarding the operation of non-essential businesses or gatherings 24 hours a day, 7 days a week through an online form or by calling 1-833-789-0470. These complaints are reviewed for completeness, accuracy, and applicability under the orders, and then referred to local authorities (as designated by the county leadership) by a team of investigators from multiple state agencies. In addition to assessing the credibility of complaints, these skilled investigators can assist local authorities in their front-line role of responding to alleged violations of the orders by providing guidance on available civil and criminal enforcement tools.
