Outside Dining in the Village by Mayor Tom Murphy

Tom Murphy, Mayor of the Village of MamaroneckDear Friends,

Outside dining will soon be returning to Mamaroneck Avenue. The Village is diligently working to process applications as they are filed. Of the 23 restaurants that usually take out permits for outside dining, only eight have applied and all have been approved. We are waiting for the other 15 to apply and when they do, we will fast track the permits. Three others permits have been approved for establishments that are offering al fresco dining for the first time. We have reached out to the Mamaroneck Chamber of Commerce to see how else we can be helpful to businesses restarting.

Larchmont has blocked off some parking spots to allow outdoor dining to expand but we are two very different communities. Larchmont has parallel parking while we have perpendicular parking. Thus we will lose many more parking spots than Larchmont by blocking them off. We also have many more restaurants spread out over Mamaroneck Avenue and to do it fairly we would need to eliminate almost all parking on that street  Nearly everyone drives to Mamaroneck Avenue. I am afraid that this idea might end up having an adverse impact on the restaurants and the many other businesses that don’t serve meals.

Westchester is on track to begin a Phase 3 on June 23. This will allow for the return of indoor dining. I know we are all anxious to return to our normal lives. We are making progress and hopefully, without a resurgence in COVID-19, we will come soon to a new normal.

Please, ALWAYS wear a mask when you are within 6 feet of someone. Please, ALWAYS bring a mask when you leave your home! Phase 2 (and Phase 3) do not mean we are out of the woods. There are 22 states with rising COVID-19 rates. We don’t want to have a resurgence in Mamaroneck. The mask protects you and everyone who you come into contact with. It is a sign that you are a kind, good, true member of this community.

Please also remember to wash hands often for 20 seconds with soap and water.  Thank you for your continued cooperation.

Courage,

Tom Murphy
Mayor, Village of Mamaroneck

Parks & RecreationVillage Playgrounds To Re-Open Following Governor Cuomo's Announcement

Following yesterday’s (Thursday, June 11) announcement allowing localities to open playgrounds at their discretion while following state guidance, the Village of Mamaroneck’s Parks and Recreation Department is actively working on and developing a plan to re-open the Village’s playgrounds. “Making sure we have safety protocols in place before we open any Village playground is our top priority,” remarked Recreation Supervisor Jason Pinto. Residents should stay tuned to the Village’s Parks & Recreation webpage as well as the Village’s Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) webpage for any announcements.

Village Prepares for 2020 Mosquito Season

MosquitoWith the warmer weather approaching, the Village of Mamaroneck is actively monitoring for mosquito activity as part of our Village’s mosquito control program. Since last year, the Village has been using Bacillus thuringiensis subspecies israelensis (Bti), a naturally occurring bacterium found in soils, in order to treat the Village’s catch basins and the marshes in the Shore Acres neighborhood*. Bti is an effective tool that reduces the mosquito population while minimizing the amount of pesticide materials being sprayed or “fogged” into the air. For more information to learn (1) What the Village is doing, (2) What residents can do, and what to do (3) If you must spray pesticidesclick here.

Please note that Village Hall at the Regatta (123 Mamaroneck Avenue) is CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. If you need to schedule an appointment with someone at Village Hall, please call the corresponding department. Click here for more information.

of Breaking 2010's Response Rate!

Westchester Joint Water Works LogoOur Village's 2020 Census Response Rate is at 66%! We are 4.4% points away from breaking our old 2010 Census Response Rate of 70.4%! The Village needs your help to get the word out about Census 2020! You can inspire others. Tell your neighbors that you completed the census, and that they should respond now, too! Visit 2020census.gov/en/how-to-help.html to find ways to help spread the word!

Our thanks to Westchester Joint Water Works (WJWW) for their help in getting the word out about Census 2020! WJWW will include this flyer (in both English AND Spanish) in the bills residents will receive in mid-June.

Census takers will begin visiting households who have not responded on August 11th and the Village hopes to hit (or even better exceed) 70.4% by then. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s safer for the Census takers if they have fewer doors to knock on. So please help us help them by completing the 2020 Census online, by phone or by mail. To complete the Census Questionnaire online, please visit My2020Census.gov.
