Phase 2 COVID-19 Recovery by Mayor Tom Murphy

Tom Murphy, Mayor of the Village of MamaroneckDear Friends,

Today, June 9, 2020, the Mid-Hudson Region, which includes the Village of Mamaroneck, enters into Phase 2 reopening. This is a very significant milestone, most importantly it means that less of our residents are becoming ill and dying. April and May were hard months of fear, sickness, loss of life and isolation. Yet we preserved by looking out for one another and caring for our neighbors. We still have far to go before this threat is behind us but today there is hope in the air.

In general, the businesses included in Phase 2 will need to maintain social distancing of 6 ft and 50% occupancy. The following activities/locations can re-open and links to specific guidance is included:

We have come through many trials and tribulations to get where we are today. Let’s keep moving forward and not let our success deceive us into believing the threat has disappeared. Wear a mask when you can not social distance. Bring a mask with you any time you venture outside your home. Continue to wash your hands often, for 20 seconds, with soap and water. Stay six feet away from each other when ever possible. Let’s not try and rush our recovery and needlessly risk lives and economic progress.

Mamaroneck has responded to this crisis with generosity and compassion for those who need help. It was been a privilege to watch the kindness and love that so many of you have shown. Stay safe and we will meet again soon!

Courage,

Tom Murphy
Mayor, Village of Mamaroneck

Village Prepares for 2020 Mosquito Season

Mosquito

With the warmer weather approaching, the Village of Mamaroneck is actively monitoring for mosquito activity as part of our Village’s mosquito control program. Since last year, the Village has been using Bacillus thuringiensis subspecies israelensis (Bti), a naturally occurring bacterium found in soils, in order to treat the Village’s catch basins and the marshes in the Shore Acres neighborhood*. Bti is an effective tool that reduces the mosquito population while minimizing the amount of pesticide materials being sprayed or “fogged” into the air.

For more information to learn (1) What the Village is doing, (2) What residents can do, and what to do (3) If you must spray pesticidesclick here.

Westchester County and New York State Announcements

Westchester County has compiled a list of operational procedures which they are following at various county pools.

Hurricane season has begun. Before it hits, now is the time to prepare for a hurricane disaster. As with any severe weather, be sure to watch and follow the weather reports, especially those of the National Weather Service, and follow these suggested precautions from Westchester County

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced that outdoor dining at restaurants will be permitted in Phase Two of reopening. Outdoor tables must be spaced six feet apart, all staff must wear face coverings and customers must also wear face coverings when not seated. As a reminder, Westchester County is currently in Phase One of reopening and, if all goes well, we expect to be in Phase Two by June 9th. The New York State Contact Tracing Program works with confirmed positive COVID-19 people to determine who they have been in contact with. of Breaking 2010's Response Rate!

Our Village's 2020 Census Response Rate hit 65.8%! That puts the Village of Mamaroneck within 5% points of breaking our old 2010 Census Response Rate of 70.4%! We need your help to get the word out about Census 2020! You can inspire others. Tell your neighbors that you completed the census, and that they should respond now, too! Visit 2020census.gov/en/how-to-help.html to find ways to help spread the word!

Census takers begin visiting households who have not responded on August 11th and the Village hopes to hit (or even better exceed) 70.4% by then. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s safer for the Census takers if they have fewer doors to knock on. So please help us help them by completing the 2020 Census online, by phone or by mail. To complete the Census Questionnaire online, please visit My2020Census.gov.
