Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update for March 16, 2020

MAMARONECK, New York, March 16, 2020 — Earlier today, Village of Mamaroneck Mayor Tom Murphy announced that the Village will close our playgrounds, for the duration of the current health emergency, to encourage social distancing in another effort to control the spread of COVID-19. "We realize this is an inconvenience, especially with school being closed," writes Mayor Tom. "But the primary goal is to keep the virus from spreading throughout our community. Children while less effected by the virus are able to pass it on, especially to older relatives."

Playgrounds Closed Due to Coronavirus

Carlos Campo, the Regional Westchester General Manager of Sportime Harbor Island informs us that "SPORTIME [will] close the doors of our 13 facilities [including Sportime Harbor Island] as of 3:00pm today, March 16, 2020, and [will] remain closed through March 31, 2020, at which time we will evaluate next steps."

All residents and the public (who are not ill or showing symptoms of illness) should always exercise caution and maintain "social distancing" practices, especially when gathering in or on Village properties, which includes any open space (for example, large parks with fields and sidewalks). Social distancing is defined as remaining out of congregate settings, avoiding mass gatherings and maintaining distance (approximately 6 feet or 2 meters) from others when possible.
