Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update for March 6, 2020

MAMARONECK, New York, March 6, 2020 — This morning the Village of Mamaroneck learned from Westchester Day School (a private, independent school located in Mamaroneck’s Orienta Point neighborhood) that one of their students tested positive for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19). Said Rachel Goldman, the Executive Director of the Westchester Day School, “We will be closed until March 17 due to a confirmed case of coronavirus, which we found out about late yesterday [March 5].”

Village of Mamaroneck Mayor Tom Murphy said, “The Village of Mamaroneck will be as supportive as we can for our neighbors at Westchester Day School. Mamaroneck is known as ‘The Friendly Village’. We are a community of neighbors that comes together during difficult times. This health situation requires us to be alert, but we also don’t want to panic. Let’s not make fear our master! Keep washing those hands as often as possible!”

Members of the Village’s Emergency Response Team (ERT) — the Village Manager, Village's Police Chief and Village Mayor — have been meeting and discussing the Village’s contingency plans. As this health situation unfolds, the ERT will be assessing and re-assessing the Village’s response. “Developing contingency plans to deal with this ongoing issue is a good practice and I encourage all residents to do the same,” said Mayor Murphy. “Questions like, ‘How can we support our neighbors in the community in the event of quarantines of school closings? Or ‘What happens when Village employees have to take time off to care of loved ones?’ are among the things we are discussing.”

Throughout Village-operated facilities including Village Hall at the Regatta, 169 Mount Pleasant Avenue, and the Stephen E. Johnston Beach Pavilion in Harbor Island Park, the Village is actively implementing increased cleaning protocols.
