Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update for May 4, 2020

MAMARONECK, New York, May 4, 2020 — We offer the following announcements for today, Monday, May 4:

Message Regarding COVID-19 from Mayor Tom Murphy

Village of Mamaroneck Mayor Tom MurphyDear Friends,

For our society, and our Village, to cope with and eventually recover from COVID-19 we must all be prepared to deal cooperatively with our changed circumstances. Hopefully we can accept changes to our attire and our lifestyles that promote the greater good. ALWAYS wear a mask when you are leaving your home even for the shortest trip. Wearing a face covering has been found to help prevent the spread of COVID.  Please refer to the CDC link below:

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/cloth-face-cover.html

Wearing a face covering along with social distancing (staying 6 feet from someone) is not only necessary but is part of the new social contract. That contract is about our commitment  to care for each other and look out for each other. If this disease has shown us anything it is how interdependent humans are on one another. What happens in Italy, France and Spain matters to us here in New York. What happens in China matters to California and Colorado. What happens on Orienta Avenue has an impact on folks on Osborn Ave. and visa versa.

We are all spending much more time at home then we are accustomed to, this can create friction between neighbors. Many folks are working from home or trying to homeschool a child during the day. Please ask your gardeners to refrain from using a leaf blower  or only use it very briefly if absolutely necessary. The Village’s annual leaf blower ban goes into effect on May 15 please show restraint until then.

Please, keep washing your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.  Let’s not let the return of lovely weather and a slowing of new cases lull us into letting our guard down. We still have a long road ahead of us. The reopening when it happens will be fraught with new problems and challenges. But it is nothing we cannot face together.  As one community!

Kindness and consideration for each other is needed now more then ever. As a community I know we have an ample supply of both.

Courage,

Tom Murphy
Mayor, Village of Mamaroneck

New York State DOHIMPORTANT: Please wear a mask in public

Fire Department Patch2020 Village of Mamaroneck Fire Department Parade/Carnival/Fireworks Display Cancelled
By Ex-Captain Mark Ballantyne

Fellow Residents and Visitors of The Village of Mamaroneck,

First it is with the greatest of hope that all who are reading this are healthy and happy.

It is with profound regret that the Village of Mamaroneck Fire Department must announce that the our annual Fireman's Carnival (that was scheduled from 6/26 to 07/05) Parade (that was scheduled on 07/01) and Fireworks (that was scheduled on 07/04) will have to be cancelled.

The officers and membership recognize our role within the Village and in the interest of safety and the well being of all who attend our annual event, it was decided the event could not take place due to the ongoing Covid-19 Pandemic.

The decision to cancel was not an easy one, and was not made without first looking at every possible way to safely hold the event. In the end, the most prudent decision was to cancel and begin to make plans for next year's event.

The VMFD stands with all of our residents and visitors, and together we will outlast and defeat this crisis.

As always, we will continue to be there with you.

We look forward to seeing everyone soon. Next year's event will be the best one yet!!!!!!!!

Thanks, Stay Safe, Practice Social Distancing, and please Wash Those Hands!!!!!!!!

in Safety

The Officers and Members of the Village of Mamaroneck Fire Department
