(MAMARONECK, NEW YORK March 24, 2023) — Just in time for Spring softball, baseball, and soccer season! The Village of Mamaroneck celebrated the completion of the LED lighting project at Harbor Island Park’s Lanza Field this past Tuesday evening, March 22nd. Jeff Ahne, the General Foreman of Parks, and Jason Pinto, the Superintendent of Recreation, met with a representative of Musco Sports Lighting, LLC, to test the new field lights. Musco specializes in the design and manufacturing of sports and transportation/infrastructure lighting systems, from hometown Little League fields to professional sports stadiums and ports around the world.

“We performed our final field light tests,” said Jason Pinto, “and I am happy to report that the lights look fantastic and are performing up to factory specifications.”

The new LED lights replace 30-year-old metal halide lights. The new system can be operated remotely from anywhere in the world and will provide years of enjoyment to all residents as well as softball, baseball, and soccer players who use Lanza Field.

"This new capital project lighting system cost the Village of Mamaroneck $244,000," said Village of Mamaroneck Mayor Tom Murphy. "I want to thank the Board of Trustees for allocating the funds for this project in the Village’s capital budget. This new lighting system will cut the Village’s energy consumption by up to 80%, which is not only good for our bottom line, but also good for the environment. My thanks to everyone involved for completing this project on-time and at budget."

"In addition to reduced energy costs, this new lighting system will eliminate the physical hours spent manually turning on and turning off the lights before and after games," said Trustee Manny Rawlings, who serves as the Trustee Liaison on the Village’s Parks & Recreation Commission. "The LED lighting systems’ monitoring service enables Village personnel to schedule and control the lights from a smart phone, webpage, or Musco’s 24/7 call center."

"I want to thank my fellow members on the Village’s Parks & Recreation Commission as well as the Village employees for making this capital project possible," said Tina Maresca, Chair of the Village’s Parks & Recreation Commission. "When we started discussing this project in 2020, we were keen to explore recent innovations in LED sports lighting that would not only achieve the proper light levels needed for Lanza Field, but also prevent spill light and glare."

With the new LED lights up and running, Lanza Field is ready to welcome the first night-time youth and adult sports teams of the season.
