Tree Law ImageProposed Local Tree Law To Be Discussed at September 29th Board of Trustees Meeting

On September 29th at 7:30pm, the Village of Mamaroneck Board of Trustees will be considering Proposed Local Law B - 2020. This law will amend Chapter 318 of the Village Code regarding the regulation of trees in the Village of Mamaroneck. This law potentially effects every property owner who has a tree.

Writes Mayor Tom Murphy, "The law is intended to save and protect our suburban forest and put the proper value on our trees from which we all derive so much benefit. Please take the time to read the law and if you can’t participate via ZOOM on the night of the hearing, please contact the Board of Trustees with your thoughts at mayorandboard@vomny.org. Information on how to participate via ZOOM will be posted on this webpage. I also wish to thank the Village's Tree Committee for working long and hard over many years to try and fashion a law that will work for Mamaroneck."

The Numbers are In: 71.4% of Village Completes 2020 Census; Breaking 20-Year Response Rate from 2000 Census!

Census Thermometer at 71%BREAKING NEWS: Late last night, a decision in the National Urban League v. Wilbur L. Ross case for violations of the Enumeration Clause and the Administrative Procedure Act was issued in the United States Distrct Court for the Northern District of California. The decision stops the Trump administration from winding down the Census count by September 30th, a month before the scheduled completion date of October 31st.

The United States Census Bureau has announced that 71.4% of households in the Village of Mamaroneck have now completed their 2020 Census questionnaires, breaking the Village’s 20-year participation rate from the 2000 Census!

“This is a significant achievement for our Village; residents have stepped up to the challenge of participating in this once-a-decade civic event,” said Village of Mamaroneck Mayor Tom Murphy. “Due to the ongoing health and safety concerns from the COVID-19 pandemic, we knew the job would be more difficult in 2020, yet Village residents have responded tremendously.”

Village residents who have yet to complete their Census are reminded that there is still time to complete their Census questionnaires. Remember:

  • There are no questions about immigration, citizenship or financial information and responses are 100% confidential.
  • The more of us who fill out the Census, the more money our community will receive from the federal government for hospitals, healthcare, schools and housing over the next 10 years.
  • The census is for everyone: every race, every nationality, every religion. Whether you are a citizen or non-citizen, on the lease or off the lease -- you should fill out the census!

Census takers are now visiting households who have not responded. These Census takers know to follow public health guidelines when they visit residences, wearing face masks and maintaining social distancing. The Census takers can be identified by their valid government ID badge with their photograph, a U.S. Department of Commerce watermark, and an expiration date.

Remember, you don't need to be visited by a Census taker to complete the Census! You can STILL complete your 2020 Census online, by phone or by mail.

To complete the Census Questionnaire online, please visit My2020Census.gov
