Keeping your property tax under control!
by Tom Murphy, Mayor of the Village of Mamaroneck

Tom Murphy Photo JPGTHE PROJECTED VILLAGE TAX INCREASE IS 1.16%. Significantly below the tax cap. In fact it is less then half of the tax cap!

I would like to thank the Village Manager, the Clerk Treasurer and the Department Heads for their hard work in managing our Budget and to guiding our community through Covid and the most catastrophic flood on record all in the last few years.

There have  been many political ramblings on social media criticizing the Board for giving pay increases to key Village staff. To keep good people who have turned Village government around in the past few years, it is necessary to reward good work. Many have commented without contextual knowledge or historical perspective. I caution that those comments be taken with many grains of salt.

One of the proofs of good governance that is tangible is our projected tax rate is significantly lower than any community in the area. In fact some of our neighbors have exceeded their tax cap.

The political season is once again upon us and it brings unfair criticism from folks who are disappointed in the election results of the past year. They are working at an unparalleled pace to find and manufacture ways to criticize this new Board who they didn’t support.

This Board is making decisions that are in the best interests of the community and hopefully will continue to make decisions in that spirit. Please take with a grain of salt those on social media who deal in negativity, distortions and half stories. Especially beware of faux “newspapers “ that publish opinion pieces and disguise their slant as news. Sour grapes are not a governing philosophy that will move Mamaroneck forward.

Respectfully,
Tom Murphy
Mayor, Village of Mamaroneck

A Note about Village Meetings

As of September 13, 2022, Governor Hochul's Executive Order 11.9, which allowed for the videoconferencing option for public meetings, ended. IN PERSON public meetings of the Village of Mamaroneck (Boards, Commissions, and Committees) are now being held. The elected or appointed members of these public bodies must attend these meetings IN PERSON. When an elected or appointed member of a public body cannot attend the meeting in person, the Village of Mamaroneck may hold remote meetings through the use of videoconferencing per Local Law 4-2022.

Meeting locations can be found on the Village’s online calendar. Members of the public who wish to participate in these meetings may also attend these meetings IN PERSON. Occasionally, and at the discretion of the Chair and/or Trustee Liaison of the public body, videoconferencing (i.e. Zoom) may be available and publicized on the Village’s online calendar should members of the public wish to participate in the meeting through videoconferencing.

As always, meetings for the Village’s Board of Trustee as well as the Land Use Boards (the Board of Architectural Review, the Harbor and Coastal Zone Management Commission, the Planning Board, and the Zoning Board of Appeals) can be viewed on LMC Media or via LMC Media’s YouTube Channel.
