Village of Mamaroneck News & Events

Tom MurphyDear Friends:

Starting on Monday, May, 10th the Village Sanitation workers will resume picking up trash at the rear and the side of homes. This is another hopeful sign of recovery that we have earned by wearing masks, staying socially distant and getting vaccinated. I urge you if you have “vaccine hesitancy” to speak about it with your doctor or a health care professional who you trust. Let’s keep up the good work to protect our community and our neighbors.

The Village's Board of Trustees passed a budget on April 28th that is under the tax cap, keeps the services that our residents expect, and is fiscally prudent. Thankfully the nation's economic conditions are improving which will ultimately benefit us all. For example, the last quarter sales tax revenue that the Village received is about 20% higher than was projected.

I would like to thank everyone who worked hard to achieve this budget in uncertain times. Thanks go to my colleagues on the Board of Trustees, Village Manager Jerry Barberio, Assistant Village Manager Dan Sarnoff, Clerk/Treasurer Augustino Fusco, the Budget Committee, the staff of the Clerk/Treasurer's Office and all of our Department heads. Thanks to their hard work and guidance, the Village is on sound financial footing with a very healthy reserve fund to cushion us from any new emergencies.

Respectfully,
Tom Murphy
Mayor, Village of Mamaroneck

Please keep wearing masks where appropriate, keep washing your hands thoroughly and please consider getting a vaccine as soon as possible. The more people who get vaccinated, the sooner all of us can put this pandemic behind us.

NEW: Beginning Monday, May 10th, DPW Sanitation Crews will resume collecting household residential garbage at the side- and rear- yards. Beginning on Monday, May 10th, that practice will end.

NEW: New York State has announced the signifiant easing of COVID-19 pandemic restrictions. For example, up to 500 people will be permitted at outdoor social gatherings. The limit on residential outdoor gatherings will be lifted. The capacity of residential indoor gatherings will increase from 10 to 50 people. Capacity restrictions will be subject to the standard 6 foot social distancing restrictions. The 6 foot rule will not apply if proof of vaccination or negative test is solicited from attendees. For more information, click here.

NEW: Westchester County has launched its ‘I Kicked COVID to the Curb’ media campaign to encourage teens and young adults to get vaccinated for COVID-19. Westchester has partnered with the New York Knicks to develop a PSA on the importance of vaccination.

NEW: Westchester County is promoting mother’s day vaccinations at Westchester Community College. Vaccines will be available from 11am-3pm on Saturday, May 8th.  Appointments are encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome. Appointments can be made here.

NEW: Westchester County’s COVID dashboard reflects vaccinations by zip code. Any New York State vaccination center will now accept walk-in appointments for all New Yorkers age 16 and older. If you have already gotten the vaccine, you can be of immense help by spreading the word about the increased availability of the vaccine to friends, family members or neighbors and help bring our community closer to the finish line.

Westchester County's paratransit system will provide free transportation to all seniors and disabled constituents who need a ride to their vaccination appointment. All reservations must be made at least 24-hours in advance, in order to allow time for scheduling. To make a reservation, call (914) 995-7272

Legislation has been signed granting employees time off to receive COVID-19 Vaccination: Public and private employees are granted time off to receive the COVID-19 vaccination. Employees have up to four hours of excused leave per injection that will not be charged against any other leave the employee has earned or accrued. Click here for more information.

You can also track the New York State's vaccination progress through the NYS COVID-19 Vaccine Tracker. The dashboard provides updates on the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine including the number of doses received by the state, a breakdown of first and second doses, and the number of people who have received first and second doses in each region.

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) will administer $28.6 billion in funds to the hardest hit small restaurants through the Restaurant Revitalization Fund.  Details on this program are available in English and Spanish. More information is available here.

Become a New York State Citizen Public Health Leader. To continue the fight against COVID and prepare for the next public health emergency, the State launched the free, online Citizen Public Health Training course for New Yorkers, in partnership with Cornell University and supported by the State University of New York. This program will prepare and equip New Yorkers to become Citizen Public Health Leaders and build an informed network across the state. Enroll for free today.

Westchester County has developed a Public Service Announcement (in English and in Espanol/Spanish) regarding vaccine scams. Beware of COVID vaccine fraud. To help root out vaccination fraud or scams across the State, New York established a hotline that New Yorkers can call to report suspected fraud. It is a red flag if anyone is promising you the vaccine in exchange for payment. To make a report, call 1-833-VAX-SCAM (1-833-829-7226) or email STOPVAXFRAUD@health.ny.gov.

Westchester County has also developed Spanish language COVID PSAs regarding vaccination. All three PSAs are available here.

Getting tested for COVID regularly is an excellent way to ensure your health and the health of those around you. If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID or believe you may have been exposed to the virus, get tested. Find a testing site near you. You can also call 1-888-364-3065 to make a free appointment at a New York State-run testing location.

While the vaccination process is underway, all New Yorkers should continue to wear masks and practice social distancing.

Please wear a mask. | Follow social distancing protocols (approximately 6 feet or 2 meters).
Wash hands often. Stay away from small and large gatherings.

Village of Mamaroneck Announcements

Announcement about Outdoor Dining for Restaurants along Mamaroneck Avenue

Savor the Avenue Photo 2 JPG

At the April 26th Board of Trustees meeting, many residents called-in or wrote about outside dining along Mamaroneck Avenue. They were concerned that the cost of renting parking space for outdoor dining was too high. Because the Village Manager is the only individual empowered under Village code to alter these rates, Mayor Murphy promised at the meeting that he would bring this issue up with the Village Manager when he returned to work on Monday, May 3rd. On Monday, May 3rd, Mayor Murphy brought these concerns to Village Manager Jerry Barberio. After being presented with the community’s concerns, Mr. Barberio lowered the rate the Village charges restaurants for parking spaces by over 50%. "I trust this will ensure profitability and help our Avenue thrive," said Mayor Murphy. "I want to thank our Village Manager Jerry Barberio for taking this action and wish all of our merchants success and recovery this year!"

And be sure to check out the announcement and photos about the recently painted barricades along Mamaroneck Avenue!

Town of Mamaroneck Announces Community Solar

Town of Mamaroneck Community Solar

Our friends and colleagues in the Town of Mamaroneck, along with the nonprofit organization Sustainable Westchester, held a press event on April 27th to announce the Hommocks Ice Rink Community Solar Project. (Click here or the image above to view the video from LMC Media.) This community solar project allows residents who cannot install solar panels on their homes to participate in the benefits of solar power by subscribing to an offsite solar project. The Town rented the roof of the Hommocks Ice Rink to Sunlight General, who installed solar panels that will create power for about 150 residents in the Town of Mamaroneck and the Villages of Mamaroneck and Larchmont. The Town will offer the solar energy first to low- and moderate- income residents and apartment dwelling residents so they can benefit from the 10% discount in their electric bills as well as provide them with the opportunity to participate in renewable energy. Currently, Sustainable Westchester is helping the Town market the energy to residents in the Hommocks Park Apartments, Washingtonville Housing Alliance, Mamaroneck Coalition for Affordable Housing and Section 8 tenants.
