Post Ida Announcements

Electricity

Following Ida's arrival in the early morning hours of September 2, the Village of Mamaroneck announced that it would waive the usual building permit fees and extend the certification process until 5:00pm on Monday, September 20. As of Tuesday, September 21, the Village's Building Department has resumed the regular permit process.

Please note that electrical permits require the third party inspection application, license, insurances (liability and worker's comp), and permit fee. The Building Department does not require an additional permit application form of any kind. The Village of Mamaroneck's Building Department is currently accepting inspection from these three companies:

Recovery Center at 169 Mt. Pleasant Avenue

Representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) continue to assist residents in applying for disaster aid at the Recovery Center. We also recommend visiting DisasterAssistance.Gov, calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362), or downloading the FEMA APP on your smartphone. FEMA has also asked us to share the following documents with residents:

Debris Piles and Sanitation

Friday, October 1 (at 5pm) is the last day that the Village of Mamaroneck's Department of Public Works will collect storm-related debris at the curb from residential properties and businesses in the flood impacted areas. Beginning Saturday morning, October 2, residents and commercial customers must follow the standard rules for rubbish collection or arrange for collection from a private waste hauler for larger quantities of material. Violations will be issued to properties that do not comply. The Food Scrap Recycling Program at 313 Fayette Avenue is suspended until further notice. For your safety and the safety of our DPW crews, please stay away from 313 Fayette Avenue. Trucks and equipment are going through this facility on a constant basis.

Disabled Vehicles on Village Streets

Approximately 256 disabled vehicles were identified on Village streets. Since September 3, we have been announcing that disabled vehicles would need to be moved by Tuesday, September 14. The Village's Police Department also extended this deadline to Wednesday, September 15. Vincent's Garage, located at 636 Fenimore Road, began towing disabled vehicles as of 5:00pm on Wednesday, September 15. If your vehicle was towed, please contact Vincent’s Garage at (914) 698-5252.

FREE Parking in all Village Parking Lots

The Village Manager has extended FREE parking in all Village Parking lots until 11:59pm on Thursday, September 30.

Tompkins Avenue Bridge

The Tompkins Avenue Bridge is closed indefinitely to vehicle traffic due to structural issues.

Volunteering and Donated Items

Finally, the Village of Mamaroneck thanks everyone in the community for their incredible support in volunteering and donating items since this disaster. The Coalition for Community – a local group of nonprofits, social service agencies and houses of worship – have been working together to coordinate volunteer operations and donations. Their work is instrumental in ensuring that we are efficient and serve as many people as possible. Committee Fairs

The Village of Mamaroneck is joining forces with two community events for this year's “Committee Fair”. Learn what all the Village Boards, Commissions, and Committees do. Learn which ones have openings beginning in January 2022. Learn about the process of applying. A representative from each board, commission, and committee will be present.

LM Lions Community Service Fair

Community Service Fair on Saturday, September 25 (RAIN DATE is Sunday, September 26) outside the Hommocks Rink (140 Hommocks Road) from 12:00pm to 3:00pm.
The Larchmont Mamaroneck Lions Club has graciously offered to let our Village Boards, Commissions, and Committees participate in this event. The following Village boards, commissions, and committees have confirmed their attendance:

Community Night Out on Friday, October 1 (no rain date) at the West Basin in Harbor Island Park, from 4pm to 7pm.

Operation of Leaf Blowers Is Permitted Until May 14th

Autumn Leaves

Beginning Thursday, October 1st, Leaf Blowers are allowed in the Village of Mamaroneck. The operation of leaf blowers, as per the Village of Mamaroneck's Leaf Blower Law, is permitted between October 1st and May 14th.

Love the autumn but dread the annual leaf cleanup? This fall season, try something different. Instead of spending untold hours (or dollars) blowing, raking, or dragging leaves, try mulching-in-place. Bridge Updates

Bridge

Beginning Monday, September 20, a night shift from 3:30pm-12am will be in place following daytime work on the New York State Department of Transportation’s Route 1 Bridge Project in Mamaroneck. This work involves excavation and installation of a utility ductbank, and is expected to continue for approximately 2 weeks. Crews will make every effort to minimize noise impacts after 8pm. Please note that it is possible this work may be moved to the week of Monday, September 27. 

Beginning Monday, September 20, 2021, the Hillside Avenue Bridge over the Mamaroneck River will be closed to all traffic.

The New York State Thruway Authority anticipates the reopening of the Old White Plains Road Bridge Over I-95 by the end of the day on Thursday, September 30, 2021.

Due to Ida, the Tompkins Avenue Bridge is closed indefinitely to vehicle traffic because of structural issues.

Scarecrow Build - Saturday, October 2

Join us for the second annual Scarecrow Build at Harbor Island Park. Build your very own scarecrow and decorate pumpkins with your family. Completed scarecrows with name tags will be displayed along "Scarecrow Trail" (Mamaroneck Avenue) throughout the month of October. Pre-registration is required. The fee for residents to participate is $40.00 per scarecrow ($50.00 per scarecrow for non-residents). All materials EXCEPT clothing are included. Village's Tree Committee and Mamaroneck Public Library Present

Mamaroneck Reads Douglas Tallamy Author Talk SMALL PNG

Hosted by the Mamaroneck Public Library, the Village of Mamaroneck Tree Committee gladly welcomes the New York Times best-selling author Douglas Tallamy for a virtual Author Talk about his book, THE NATURE OF OAKS (Timber Press, 2021) on Thursday, October 14, at 7:00pm. It's "an affectionate yet scientifically rich look" (Kirkus) at one of the ancient cornerstones of ecosystems throughout the United States - the oak tree. Register in advance for the 10/14 Author Talk.

Ahead of Douglas Tallamy's October 14 Author Talk, Beverley Sherrid, Co-Chair of the Village's Tree Committee, will lead a virtual Book Discussion Group of The Nature of Oaks on Wednesday, September 29, at 7:00pm. Join the discussion on September 29 and then meet the author on October 14! Register in advance for the September 29 meetingAfter registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

Also, join the Village of Mamaroneck's Tree Committee for a Fall Tree Walk on Sunday, October 17, at 1pm (Rain Date: Sunday, October 24). As part of this year's Fall Tree Walk, Jocelyn Kleinman, Education Director of the Sheldrake Environmental Center, will lead participants as we examine and discuss oak trees, incorporating some of the ideas raised in Douglas Tallamy’s book, THE NATURE OF OAKS and his October 14th Author Talk. Participants will also revisit the trees we saw in the spring, observing the growth and changes that have occurred, as well as explore other tree species on The Parkway. Meet at the intersection of The Parkway and Boston Post Road. This event is FREE and open to the public. Register in advance of the October 17 Fall Tree Walk. Minors must be accompanied by an adult.

COVID-19 Announcements

All New Yorkers age 12+ are now eligible to schedule and receive the vaccine. Visit vaccinefinder.org to find a COVID-19 vaccine site near you!

  • Any unvaccinated individuals should continue to wear proper face masks or coverings, as per the CDC Guidance. For vaccinated individuals, masks should be worn indoors in public areas if you are in an area of substantial or high transmission. Given these factors, the mask mandate has been re-established for several public buildings.
  • The Westchester County Department of Health has set up a phone line for residents to speak one-on-one with nurses and doctors about the COVID-19 vaccines. Residents can call (914) 995-5800 to speak with medical professionals in English or Spanish to ask questions or get answers to their concerns.
  • Westchester County continues to vaccinate homebound seniors. To schedule a homebound appointment, contact Westchester’s Office of Senior Programs and Services at (914) 813-6300.
  • Find a testing site near you. You can also call 1-888-364-3065 to make a free appointment at a New York State-run testing location.  

Find guidance from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for fully vaccinated people. If you are not vaccinated, find a vaccine.
