A Note about Village Meetings

As of September 13, 2022, Governor Hochul's Executive Order 11.9, which allowed for the videoconferencing option for public meetings, ended. IN PERSON public meetings of the Village of Mamaroneck (Boards, Commissions, and Committees) are now being held. The elected or appointed members of these public bodies must attend these meetings IN PERSON. The location of these meetings can be found on the Village’s online calendar. Members of the public who wish to participate in these meetings may also attend these meetings IN PERSON. Occasionally, and at the discretion of the Chair and/or Trustee Liaison of the public body, videoconferencing (i.e. Zoom) may be available and publicized on the Village’s online calendar should members of the public wish to participate in the meeting through videoconferencing.

As always, meetings for the Village’s Board of Trustee as well as the Land Use Boards (the Board of Architectural Review, the Harbor and Coastal Zone Management Commission, the Planning Board, and the Zoning Board of Appeals) can be viewed on LMC Media or via LMC Media’s YouTube Channel.

Other Village Calendars:

START DATE: Operation of Leaf Blowers Is Permitted Beginning TOMORROW, Saturday, October 1st (Until May 14, 2023)

Autumn Leaves

Beginning on Saturday, October 1st, Leaf Blowers are allowed in the Village of Mamaroneck. The operation of leaf blowers, as per the Village of Mamaroneck's Leaf Blower Law, is permitted from October 1st to May 14, 2023.

Please remember that leaves, clippings, brush, and other small branches should be contained in a biodegradable brown paper bag or open garbage can (with drain holes at the bottom) and placed at the curb. PLEASE DO NOT PILE LEAVES OR GRASS AT THE CURB OR ON MEDIANS OR ISLANDS ON YOUR STREET.  The Village's Department of Public Works (DPW) Leaf Pickup Schedule for 2022 can be found here. Please keep in mind that the DPW will make every attempt to adhere to this schedule. Collection may be a day or two ahead or behind schedule depending on the weather.

Love the autumn but dread the annual leaf cleanup? This fall season, try something different. Instead of spending untold hours (or dollars) blowing, raking, or dragging leaves, try mulching-in-place. The Village of Mamaroneck is one of over 22 proud municipalities of the Love 'Em and Leave 'Em initiative. Learn how to reduce organic yard waste from your property by visiting www.leleny.org.

Fire Department Announcement: Smart Safety Tips for Devices with Lithium-Ion Batteries

Smart Safety Tips for Devices with Lithium SMALL PNG

Lithium-ion batteries supply power to many kinds of devices including smart phones, laptops, tablets, scooters, ecigarettes, smoke alarms, toys, and even cars. Lithium-ion batteries store large amounts of energy and can pose a threat if not treated properly. Like any product, a small number of these batteries are defective. We want you to take care when using them, because in rare cases, they can overheat, catch fire or explode. Download the "Smart Safety Tips for Devices with Lithium-Ion Batteries" flyer.

Village of Mamaroneck Tree Law

Tree Law Graphic 01 SMALL PNG

Trees help sustain an ecological system that provides climatic advantages to people and wildlife alike: cooling the air, buffering the wind and providing a natural barrier to noise. Conserving these natural assets was the impetus behind a decision by the Village of Mamaroneck's Board of Trustees (with support from the Tree Committee) to vote on and enact a new tree law. On October 12, 2021, the Village passed a local law making property owners in the village responsible for the maintenance of trees on their property, including their removal. The penalty for failing to follow this new law is a fine or $1,050 or more. The law is intended to preserve our trees, which provide numerous benefits, including the reduction of air pollution, increase to the tree canopy, and the improvement of the drainage and maintenance of a healthy eco-system. Studies show that a minimum tree canopy cover of 40% is the threshold needed to reap the full benefits of trees. A goal of the Board of Trustees, supported by the Tree Committee, is to achieve this minimum tree canopy coverage and maintain it on an ongoing basis. The Tree Committee as well as the Building Department has put together the following resources to help educate and inform residents about our Village's Tree Law.

NOTICE: Rising Winter Energy Bills

Energy Bill JPG

A Con Edison press release from September 9, identified that energy bills this winter are likely to rise and urged residents to take steps in advance of the winter to conserve energy.

Con Edison estimates that a Westchester County customer using the average of 600 kilowatt hours a month will see an average bill of $203 per month, a 27% increase compared to the $160 bill they would have seen in winter of 2021. A small commercial customer in Westchester using an average of 583 kilowatt hours per month will see an average bill of $238, an increase of 23% compared to the $194 bill they would have seen in winter of 2021.

Con Edison attributes these increased prices to increased costs in the supply of natural gas; power generation plants in our region largely utilize natural gas in order to produce energy.

Please see Con Edison’s press release on this topic. This press release includes possible resources which customers can rely on, including access to payment plans, discounts for those who receive benefits from certain government programs, energy saving tips, and energy efficiency incentives for upgrades customers make to their homes.
