Monarch Butterfly Festival

The Village of Mamaroneck took the Mayors Monarch Pledge in 2022 to help save the Monarch Butterfly population, which as been on a dramatic decline.

The Village of Mamaroneck in partnership with the Committee for the Environment, has planted native pollinator gardens throughout our Village including a Pollinator garden and Milkweed Patch in Harbor Island, as well as helping establish the Rockland Pocket Preserve. We continue to educate residents on the importance of not using pesticides, planting milkweed and native, nectar producing plants and leaving the leaves for overwintering insects.

In 2023 the Village named Butterfly Milkweed as its official village flower and in 2024 was awarded the title of National Wildlife Federation Leader for the Mayors' Monarch Pledge.

Each year the Village hosts a FREE Community Monarch Butterfly Festival in September to celebrate the Monarchs’ migration to Mexico.
