In accordance with revised guidance promulgated by New York Empire State Development construction activity is non-essential and must shut down except for emrgency construction (e.g. a project necessary to protect health and safety of the occupants, or to continue a project if it would be unsafe to allow to remain undone until it is safe to shut the site).
Essential construction may continue and includes roads, bridges, transit facilities, utilities, hospitals or health care facilities, affordable housing, and homeless shelters.
At every site, if essential or emergency non-essential construction, this includes maintaining social distance, including for purposes of elevators/meals/entry and exit. Sites that cannot maintain distance and safety best practices must close and enforcement will be provided by the state in coordination with the Village. This will include fines of up to $10,000 per violation
The Executive Order further mandated that all non-essential business are to have 100% of their staff work from home.
New York will reopen statewide certain low-risk businesses as of May 15 which includes landscaping services.
The Building Department provides many services to property owners concerning documentation and certifications of structures within the Village. The Building Department is also responsible for code enforcement. The Building Department:
- Receives and reviews applications, drawings and plans for:
- Building Permits
- Plumbing Permits
- Dumpster Permits
- Sign Permits
- Demolition Permits
- Electrical Permits
- Performs inspections to ensure compliance with building permits including foundation, footing, plumbing and final inspections. Issues certificates of occupancy and compliance on permits that have been completed and have proper documentation.
- Prepares certification letters identifying the existence of certificates of occupancy, building permits and violations on properties, generally required in connection with the sale of properties or mortgage refinancings.
- Performs housing inspections to ensure buildings are used in a safe and lawful manner. Issues Violation and Order To Remedy Notices to owners of properties who are in violation of any building, zoning or any other law or regulation.
