Hazardous Waste

Take Hazardous Waste to the H-MRF

Westchester County’s permanent Household Material Recovery Facility (H-MRF) in Valhalla accepts household hazardous waste and other items that require special handling.

These include chemicals such as pesticides, herbicides, automotive and pool fluids, cleaning products, flammable liquids, as well as expired or unused prescription or over-the-counter medications. Also electronic waste (computers, TVs, laptops, monitors, fax machines, copiers, digital cameras, cellphones, etc.), fluorescent light bulbs, propane tanks, rechargeable batteries, tires, household appliances, mercury thermometers, fire extinguishers, documents for shredding, and more.

The H-MRF is open on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays (except on federal holidays) from 10 a.m. to 2:50 p.m., but prescription medicines are accepted on the first Tuesday of every month only.

Residents must make a reservation up to two weeks in advance, either online here or by telephone (914-813-5425), and show a valid driver’s license on arrival.
