CANCELED: Summer Day Camp 2020 at Harbor Island Park

Village of Mamaroneck Summer Day Camp LogoIt is with profound sadness that I announce the cancelation of the Village of Mamaroneck’s 2020 Summer Camp at Harbor Island Park program, which was scheduled to happen between June 29 and August 7. Over the past months and weeks, the Parks & Recreation Staff and I have been researching to find a path to safely open this program because we know — this year more than ever — that the 2020 Summer Camp at Harbor Island Park program is something that many Mamaroneck children and families desire. In the end, this final decision, which was made by me, had to take into account the necessary precautions to ensure the health and safety of our staff, the children and their families.

Over the past few months, the Parks & Recreation Staff and I had been working with local and state associations to understand the impact COVID-19 will have on summer camps throughout Westchester County and the State of New York. The staff and I discussed every scenario in which we may be able to hold our traditional program. Even with New York State’s recent announcement that Westchester County could begin the first phase of reopening, there is still a lack of standardized safety guidelines and practices that would need to be implemented by our Parks & Recreation and summer camp staff. That having been said, it has become abundantly clear that the Village’s summer day camp program would simply not be possible due to timelines, staffing needs and varying levels of uncertainty.

The Village’s Parks and Recreation Department and I will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation and New York State’s reopening efforts as we continue this summer. It is our hope to offer community programs in some form in the Fall as we settle into this new normal. Any individual who is currently registered for summer camp will be issued a full refund. (Please allow the staff in our Parks & Recreation Department 10 to 15 business days to complete this process.)

We thank you for your patience and understanding throughout this entire process. Please stay safe.
