Emergency Announcements as of September 12, 2021, at 1:00PM:

Before the storm’s arrival in the early morning hours of Thursday, September 2nd, the Village of Mamaroneck has been sending these regular Emergency Announcements to keep you informed about this emergency and the recovery services available. We hope you have found them informative and helpful. Today’s Emergency Announcements will be the last time for these regular, daily set of announcements. After today, any announcements from the Village or the Village’s Recovery Center will be sent on an as-needed basis.  

Electricity

Nearly 350 residences in the Village of Mamaroneck lost power from the storm. With the help of ConEdison and the Village’s Building Department, a system was developed to identify and RED TAG these residences to ensure that electrical service was restored in a safe and effective manner. About 60%, or approximately 190 residences, were inspected by private, licensed electricians, their certification letters were delivered to ConEd and the Village’s Building Department, and electricity has been restored. Since yesterday, September 11th, this process has slowed down considerably. The remaining 150 residences that are still without power should be in the process of being inspected by private, licensed electricians. They (and nobody else) can sign off on certification letters.

ConEdison and the Village’s Building Department are accepting certification letters at Village Hall at the Regatta at 123 Mamaroneck Avenue until 5pm, today, Sunday, September 12th and will be open this week from 9am to 5pm. The Village has waived the usual permit fee to expedite this process and has extended this certification process until Monday, September 20. In the coming days, the Village will be sending officials into the community to make sure RED TAGGED residences that are still without power are aware of this process. If you or someone you know is still without power, please contact the Village’s Building Department at (914) 777-7731 and/or ConEdison at Village Hall is (914) 825-8793. Village Building Department personnel and/or ConEdison personnel are available to meet with residents at Village Hall at the Regatta at 123 Mamaroneck Avenue today, Sunday, September 12th and will be there all this week from 9am to 5pm.

Recovery Center at 169 Mt. Pleasant Avenue

Numerous disaster relief services, from FEMA to the Red Cross and more, continue to meet with residents affected by the storm at the Recovery Center at the Village Courthouse at 169 Mt. Pleasant Avenue. The Recover Center is open every day from 9am to 5pm and will remain the Recovery Center until further notice. Yesterday, September 11th, we reported that over 550 households had visited the Recovery Center and as of 12:30 yesterday, 350 of them had met with officials.The Village of Mamaroneck and our partners at the Recover Center encourages all individuals, regardless of immigration status, to seek help and utilize these services. Debris Piles and Sanitation

The collection of debris piles began over a week ago on Friday, September 3rd. Since then, crews from the Village’s Department of Public Works (or DPW) have been working non-stop, picking up debris piles in the flood affected areas. Today, Sunday, September 12, these crews are taking a well-deserved break and we thank them as well as our neighboring communities, the County and the State for their assistance. As debris piles get smaller and smaller, the Village will be assessing its collection process and in the coming days, we expect to announce that (1) the Village’s DPW will stop collecting debris piles and that (2) the collection and disposal of any remaining construction debris, building materials, or demolition materials will return to the responsibility of the property owner.

For this week, regular household garbage and recycling pickup schedules are in effect; however, the Food Scrap Recycling Program at 313 Fayette Avenue is suspended until further notice. For your safety and the safety of our DPW crews, please stay away from 313 Fayette Avenue. Trucks and equipment are going through this facility on a constant basis.

Disabled Vehicles on Village Streets

If you have a disabled vehicle parked along Village streets, it will need to be moved by Tuesday, September 14 – otherwise it will be towed at your expense. Approximately 256 cars were identified with orange placards on Village Streets. If your car is disabled on a village street or has an orange placard, it will need to be moved by Tuesday, September 14 – otherwise it will be towed at your expense. The Village Manager has extended FREE parking in all Village Parking lots until 5:00pm on Monday, September 20.

Tompkins Avenue Bridge

The Tompkins Avenue Bridge is closed indefinitely to vehicle traffic due to structural issues.

Volunteering and Donated Items

Finally, the Village of Mamaroneck thanks everyone in the community for their incredible support in volunteering and donating items since this disaster. The Coalition for Community – a local group of nonprofits, social service agencies and houses of worship – have been working together to coordinate volunteer operations and donations. Their work is instrumental in ensuring that we are efficient and serve as many people as possible. Again, your help is most effective when coordinated through the Coalition for Community.
