Grant funds available to repair homes with lead-based paint

Fact:  Most homes built before 1978 have some lead-based paint.

Homes built before 1960 have the most lead paint. Lead can be present on any painted surface, but it is most often found on windows, trim, doors, railings, columns, porches and outside walls. Surfaces that have been repainted may have layers of lead paint underneath. A lead inspection can tell you where lead paint is located in your property. Exposure to lead can result in reduced IQ, learning disabilities and behavioral problems; even a “little” lead can cause lifelong problems.

Landlords and property owners are encouraged to apply for LSW funds to reduce exposure to lead-based paint and safety hazards AND improve the quality of affordable housing throughout the County. To participate, residents must meet certain income guidelines. Attached you will find:

  1. A press release that gives the basics of the LSW program;
  2. A Fact Sheet (in English and Spanish) about the LSW program, to post on your website / bulletin board.

The LSW application is available on the County’s website: https://homes.westchestergov.com/lead-paint
