National Weather Service: Gusty Winds, Heavy Rain, and Coastal Flooding Tues., 11/21 through Wed., 11/22

Posted on 11/21/2023 at 11:00AM: The National Weather Service forecasts a low pressure system that will bring gusty winds, periods of heavy rain, and coastal flooding to the area Tuesday night, November 21st, through early Wednesday, November 22nd. 1-to-2 inches of rain is likely. Wind gusts of 20-to-40 miles per hour are expected. This could lead to minor or nuisance flooding, with the heaviest rainfall expected after midnight Tuesday into early Wednesday. Flash flooding is not expected at this time.

Please note the following:

  1. DO NOT DRIVE ON FLOODED ROADWAYS. DO NOT DRIVE AROUND BARRICADES.
  2. Bring inside (or tie down) any items that could be impacted by high winds.
  3. PLEASE DO NOT RAKE OR BLOW LEAVES INTO THE STREET. Doing so presents a flooding concern when leaves are washed into storm drains. While not required, bagging leaves will help them from being blown into the street and blocking storm drains.
  4. For residents who live in our flood prone areas, consider bringing your vehicle(s) to higher ground. Beginning at 12:00pm today, Tuesday, November 21, multi-space meters on Phillips Park Road and at the Hunter Tier Parking Lot on Prospect Avenue will be set to free parking until Wednesday, November 22 at 6:00pm.
  5. If you lose power, report your power problem to ConEdison. Visit www.coned.com or call 1-800-752-6633. If you see fallen power lines or damaged electrical equipment DO NOT TOUCH them! Call ConEd at 1-800-752-6633.
  6. Check-in on elderly neighbors and those who may need assistance.
