National Weather Service: Heavy Rain and Strong Winds Late Sun., 12/10 through Early Mon., 12/11

UPDATED 12/09/2023 at 9:30AM: The National Weather Service forecasts moderate to heavy rainfall and strong wind gusts late Sunday afternoon, December 10th into early Monday morning, December 11th. Minor to locally moderate coastal flooding impacts are possible with the Monday morning high tidal cycle as well. 2-to-3 inches of rain across the New York Metropolitan area will fall over a 12 hour period late Sunday into early Monday morning, before tapering off Monday morning. Sustained winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts of 45 to 55 mph are possible along the coast Sunday evening into early Monday morning.

Please note the following:

  1. DO NOT DRIVE ON FLOODED ROADWAYS. DO NOT DRIVE AROUND BARRICADES.
  2. BRING INSIDE (OR TIE DOWN) ANY ITEMS (ESPECIALLY CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS) THAT COULD BE IMPACTED BY HIGH WINDS.
  3. PLEASE DO NOT RAKE OR BLOW LEAVES INTO THE STREET. Doing so presents a flooding concern when leaves are washed into storm drains. While not required, bagging leaves will help them from being blown into the street and blocking storm drains.
  4. Cameras were recently installed at key locations along the Mamaroneck and Sheldrake Rivers to monitor water levels during an extreme weather event. Beginning Sunday, December 10th, you can view live video of the river’s water levels from any internet connected device by CLICKING HERE. This live video of the river's water levels will end on Monday morning, December 11th. As we utilize this new technology, please understand that difficulties and disruptions to the live video may arise. We thank you in advance for your patience as we work through these issues.
  5. For residents who live in our flood prone areas, consider bringing your vehicle(s) to higher ground. On Sunday, December 10th, multi-space meters on Phillips Park Road and at the Hunter Tier Parking Lot on Prospect Avenue will be set to free parking.
  6. If you lose power, report your power problem to ConEdison. Visit www.coned.com or call 1-800-752-6633. If you see fallen power lines or damaged electrical equipment DO NOT TOUCH them! Call ConEd at 1-800-752-6633.
  7. Check-in on elderly neighbors and those who may need assistance.
