National Weather Service: Major Storm System Late Tuesday 01/09 into Wednesday, 01/10

The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Warning and a Storm Warning for our area beginning at 6:00pm on Tuesday, January 9th.

Anticipate flooding and be prepared for a power outage. Expect:

  • Widespread moderate to major river flooding.
  • Widespread minor to moderate urban and poor drainage flooding.
  • Widespread moderate coastal flooding.
  • 2 to 4 inches of rain with locally higher amounts possible.
  • Strong to damaging 40 to 50 mph wind gusts. Gusts of 50 to 60 mph winds are also possible.

Please note the following:

  1. DO NOT DRIVE ON FLOODED ROADWAYS. DO NOT DRIVE AROUND BARRICADES.
  2. BRING INSIDE ANY ITEMS (SUCH AS DISCARDED CHRISTMAS TREES) THAT COULD BE IMPACTED BY HIGH WINDS.
  3. We encourage households to place recycling out for collection on Wednesday morning, January 10th (by 5:30am); instead of on Tuesday night, January 9th. This will prevent recycled items from blowing away and clogging storm drains.
  4. Cameras have been installed at key locations along the Mamaroneck and Sheldrake Rivers to monitor water levels. You can view live video of the rivers' water levels from any internet connected device by CLICKING HERE. While the cameras are up, Village personnel will be monitoring them so that emergency crews can be dispatched and if necessary, evacuations are ordered. This live video of the rivers' water levels will end on Wednesday morning, January 10th.
  5. For residents who live in our flood prone areas, now is the time to bring your vehicle to higher ground. In addition to the upper level of the Hunter Tier Parking Lot on Prospect Avenue, we encourage moving vehicles to Phillips Park Road, between Spencer Place and Tompkins Avenue, located east of the Mamaroneck Avenue shops. As a number of spots at the Hunter Tier Lot have been blocked off, you can utilize parking along Phillips Park Road as an alternative. As of 12:00pm, Tuesday, January 9th, multi-space meters on Phillips Park Road and on the Hunter Tier Lot have been set to free parking until 6:00pm on Wednesday, January 10th.
  6. If you lose power, report your power problem to ConEdison. Visit www.coned.com, call 1-800-752-6633, or text "OUT" to 688-243. If you see fallen power lines or damaged electrical equipment DO NOT TOUCH them! More info can be found here.
  7. Tonight's January 9th Traffic Commission Meeting has been CANCELLED. A new date for the rescheduled meeting will be announced shortly.
  8. Finally, check-in on elderly neighbors and those who may need assistance.
