Village of Mamaroneck Police Department Receives Three Awards from New York State’s STOP-DWI

Congratulations to the entire Village of Mamaroneck Police Department, as well as to Sgt. Andrew Benkwitt Jr. and to P.O. Anthony Fraioli Jr., on receiving the following awards for 2022 from the New York State STOP-DWI Foundation, Inc. The awards are in recognition for promoting DWI prevention as a public priority and developing new and innovative approaches for dealing with drinking and/or drug-impaired drivers.

  • Sergeant Andrew Benkwitt Jr., recipient of the Recognition of Excellence - Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) Enforcement Award.
  • Police Officer Anthony Fraioli Jr., recipient of the Recognition of Excellence - Individual Award.

Village of Mamaroneck Police Department Receives Three Awards from NYS STOP-DWI

Sandra DiRuzza, Chief of the Village of Mamaroneck Police Department, said, “We are thrilled to have been recognized for our efforts in keeping people safe on our roadways. We are committed to preventing the senseless loss of life by people who operate a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.”

Chief DiRuzza (on behalf of the department), Sgt. Benkwitt., and P.O. Fraioli accepted the awards at the 2023 New York State Law Enforcement STOP-DWI Recognition event on May 2 at the Albany Capital Center in Albany, New York. The annual event recognizes individuals and departments for their efforts to eliminate drunk driving and impaired driving in New York State.

As the designated public charity of New York State’s STOP-DWI (“Special Traffic Options Program for Driving While Impaired”), the STOP DWI program aims to (1) reduce the number of persons killed or injured in alcohol and other drug-related traffic crashes, (2) promote DWI prevention as a public priority, and (3) coordinate local efforts in Law Enforcement, Prosecution, Probation, Rehabilitation, Public Information, Education, and Administration.
