Demand Safe Water - WJWW Filtration
by Village of Mamaroneck Mayor Tom Murphy

Dear Friends,

Mayor Tom MurphyIt is imperative that the Westchester Joint Water Works (WJWW) build a water filtration plant at Rye Lake. The plant will ensure safe drinking water to a huge area of Westchester. This project should have been built years and years ago but was delayed by the opposition of real estate developers who have put profit motive over civic good.

Now those same folk, and their allies, are trying to stop the treatment plant again by applying political pressure to Westchester County to not follow through on a much needed land swap that will benefit both WJWW and the County airport.

To not build the plant puts the health of 100,000 residents at risk. It also exposes the Towns of Mamaroneck and Harrison and the Village of Mamaroneck to potentially crippling fines from both federal and state agencies. Many of the areas that WJWW supplies water to are economically challenged, ethnically diverse and can’t afford to hire lobbying groups and powerful law firms to advocate for their interests like the real estate developers who oppose the land swap. So we all have to look out for one another and fight for both ourselves, our children, our grandchildren and our neighbors health and well-being.

Please click on the website below to get updates and to get more involved in ensuring safe drinking water for our area for generations to come.

Respectfully,
Tom Murphy
Mayor, Village of Mamaroneck

The signs remind drivers to yield to pedestrians as they cross the street. Said Troop 2974 Leader Vanessa Carlson, “The letter was part of the Girl Scout’s Brownie Quest Journey, which is all about making our community a better place.” In addition to using the crosswalk to get to Florence Park, many children, as the Girl Scouts wrote, “use the crosswalk to walk to school safely.” Click here to read more.
