State Budget Includes $17.5 Million for Village of Mamaroneck Flood Project
Albany, NY - State Senator Shelley B. Mayer (SD 36) and State Assemblyman Steve Otis (AD 91) announced [on Wednesday, May 3rd] that the recently adopted state budget includes the $17.5 million state share to fund the Mamaroneck Sheldrake US Army Corp of Engineers flood project.
In a joint statement, Senator Mayer and Assemblyman Otis said, “In the budget, we have included the NYS contribution to the vitally important Mamaroneck ACE project, which will be proceeding to construction. We worked closely with our legislative leaders in each house, Governor Hochul, and Commissioner Basil Seggos of the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation on the state contribution that will be pooled with federal and county funds. Mamaroneck needs this project to move to construction.”

Village of Mamaroneck Police Department Receives Three Awards from New York State’s STOP-DWI
Congratulations to the entire Village of Mamaroneck Police Department, as well as to Sgt. Andrew Benkwitt Jr. and to P.O. Anthony Fraioli Jr., on receiving three awards for 2022 from the New York State STOP-DWI Foundation, Inc. The awards are in recognition for promoting DWI prevention as a public priority and developing new and innovative approaches for dealing with drinking and/or drug-impaired drivers. Village of Mamaroneck Police Department Assists at Mamaroneck Ave. School's Bike Rally
Officers from the Village of Mamaroneck's Police Department were on hand at Mamaroneck Avenue School this past Thursday, May 4th to assist young bicyclists on the proper use of bicycle brakes, controlling of handlebars, and getting on and off a bicycle safely. In addition, a few employees from Millers were on hand to ensure the proper fitting of bike helmets, conducted bicycle inspections, and determined if the bicycle was the proper size for the rider. Special thanks to the Village's Police Department, Miller's Toy, and the Mamaroneck Avenue School PTA for organizing this event.
Mamaroneck School District's Elementary Schools' Walk to School Week - May 8th to May 12th
Families and students in the Mamaroneck School District will be putting on their walking shoes and walking to/from school for "Walk to School Week" starting this Monday, May 8th. Watch this video from LMC Media about all the great benefits for you and our community when students and families park the car and choose to walk to school.
In 2019, the Village’s Board of Trustees passed legislation making the speed limit on (almost all) Village of Mamaroneck streets 25 MPH. From leading Walking Safety Assessments (in 2016, 2017, 2018, and two in 2019) of Mamaroneck's roadways to partnering with the Mamaroneck Safe Routes to School Coalition, the Village is actively supporting a more equitable, safe, accessible roadway system in our Village.
Donate to the Mamaroneck Public Library
The Mamaroneck Public Library needs your help. The Village of Mamaroneck has agreed to loan the Library $1.4 million to remain open, but the loan will need to be repaid in one year. Every tax-deductible donation, no matter the size, will help the Library repay this loan and continue providing essential services to Library patrons. Leaf Blower Education Campaign
During the month of May, the Village of Mamaroneck’s Department of Public Works, Police Department, and the Committee for the Environment are reminding residents with a door hanger educational campaign about the restrictions on using Leaf Blowers in the Village. Door hangers are in the process of being distributed to residential homes. On one side is information for landscapers and property owners about our local law restricting the use of ALL Leaf Blowers between May 15 and September 30. Violations by owners and landscapers are subject to fine. Flip the door hanger and on the other side, the Village’s Committee for the Environment offers alternative methods, such as mowing leaves, mulching them, or composting them. Our thanks to the Village's Committee for the Environment for leading this education campaign.
Leaf Blowers Prohibited Begins May 15
Beginning on May 15th, the operation of leaf blowers, per the Village of Mamaroneck's Leaf Blower Law, is prohibited until September 30. This includes ALL leaf blowers including gas, electric AND vacuum. Furthermore, Westchester County law requires that landscaping contractors be registered with the County and that leaf blowers meet County emissions regulations. May is Mental Health Awareness Month
May is Mental Health Awareness Month and at the next Board of Trustees Meeting on May 8th, the Board will be recognizing this national movement and raising awareness about mental health in the Village of Mamaroneck. Together, we can fight stigma, provide support, educate the public and advocate for policies that support the millions of people affected by mental illness. Spring Tree Walk - Sunday, May 21 at 1:00pm
Join the Village of Mamaroneck's Tree Committee for a FREE Spring Tree Walk on Sunday, May 21 with Jocelyn Kleinman, Education Director of the Sheldrake Environmental Center. (There is NO Rain Date.) Following last Winter's Tree Walk, we will return to Columbus Park and see how the trees have changed with the season. Tree walks offer an opportunity to spend time outdoors and enjoy the life-giving benefits of trees while learning about our local urban forest. Participants will explore tree species and learn some in-depth information, fun facts, and tips about caring for trees. This event is FREE and open to the public; but registration is required. Participants will be asked to complete Waiver Forms before the Tree Walk begins. Our group will gather in front of the Modern on the Rails restaurant at 1 Station Plaza. American Legion Post 90's Memorial Day Parade and Observances - Sunday, May 28
The Village of Mamaroneck is delighted and grateful the American Legion Post 90’s Memorial Day Parade and Observances will return to our community this year. As we approach this event, the Village of Mamaroneck has put together this Community Announcement to provide the public with important information. The American Legion Post 90’s Memorial Day Parade and Observances is scheduled to kick off at 5:00pm on Sunday, May 28. (Please note this is NOT on the observed holiday of Memorial Day, which falls on Monday, May 29.)

Harbor Island Park Beach & Parking Passes Now On Sale
Harbor Island Park seasonal beach and parking pass sales are now on sale. Individuals interested in purchasing a seasonal beach and/or parking pass can do so in person, Monday to Friday, between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. at the Parks & Recreation office located in the Stephen E. Johnston Pavilion at Harbor Island Park. For more information about the beach and parking fees, beach operating hours, and all the guidelines for the 2023 Harbor Island Park Beach Season, click here.

Village of Mamaroneck Day Camp at Harbor Island Park
Online registration for the Village of Mamaroneck Day Camp (VMDC) is now open to Village of Mamaroneck and non-Village of Mamaroneck residents. If you are uncertain about your household's municipality, please call the Parks & Recreation Department at (914) 777-7784.
VMDC at Harbor Island Park will operate from June 26th to August 4th, Monday through Friday, between 9:00am and 3:00pm. There will be no camp on Tuesday, July 4th in honor of the Independence Day holiday. Early Morning Drop-off and Extended Day programs are available if you register for them. Camp registration is open to children age four (by the start of camp season) to teens who will be entering 9th grade in the fall of 2023.

Sign Up for CRC English ESL Classes at the Stephen E. Johnston Beach Pavilion in Harbor Island Park
In collaboration with the Village of Mamaroneck Parks & Recreation Department, the Community Resource Center is offering FREE in-person, English as a second language (ESL) classes. The ESL classes are held Monday to Thursday, from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., at the Stephen E. Johnston Beach Pavilion in Harbor Island Park. Pre-registration is required. This program is in conjunction with the Town of Mamaroneck Recreation Department. There is no better way to experience Mamaroneck Harbor than by paddling its calm waters and enjoying its unique wildlife! On these guided tours, visitors explore Harbor Island by kayak and find out about the local plants and animals of this unique estuary environment. Empty Slips at the Marina Available for Rent
Empty slips at the marina for boats of varying sizes are now available for rent. The Village of Mamaroneck Harbor Master oversees and administers all vessels located within the waterways of Harbor Island, assigns each applicant a slip space, and is responsible for maintaining records of dock and mooring assignments. If you are interested in reserving a slip, please contact Jeff LaRusso or Kristen Salov at the Harbor Master’s Office at (914) 777-7744.
