Presidents Day - Monday, February 19
All Village offices are closed on Monday, February 19th, in honor of Presidents Day. There will be no garbage, organic, food scrap, rubbish, or recycling collection on Monday, February 19. The Recycling Center, including the Compost Drop-Off Program, at 313 Fayette Avenue is closed and the Marine Education Center at Harbor Island Park is also closed.
Apply to Serve on the Affordable Housing Ad Hoc Task Force: DEADLINE to submit materials is Friday, March 1
At their February 12th Meeting, the Board of Trustees established an Affordable Housing Ad Hoc Task Force. (Click here to read the Resolution.) The task force will consist of 7 members, including experts in housing and housing related professions, and a Trustee Liaison, and be constituted for a period of one year beginning March 15, 2024 (may be extended). In order to provide the Board of Trustees time to review materials, individuals interested in volunteering and serving on the Affordable Housing Ad Hoc Task Force should submit (1) a letter of interest and (2) a resume by 5:00pm on Friday, March 1 to CToffice@vomny.org.
Village of Mamaroneck Day Camp at Harbor Island Park
Online registration for the Village of Mamaroneck Day Camp (VMDC) will open to Village of Mamaroneck residents on Monday, February 26, 2024. (Registration opens to non-Village of Mamaroneck residents on Monday, March 11, 2024.) If you are uncertain about your household's municipality, please call the Parks & Recreation Department at (914) 777-7784.
VMDC at Harbor Island Park will operate from July 1 to August 9, Monday through Friday, between 9:00am and 3:00pm. There will be no camp on Thursday, July 4 in honor of the Independence Day holiday as well as on Friday, July 5. Early Morning Drop-off and Extended Day programs are available if you register for them. Camp registration is open to children age four (by the start of camp season) up to teens who will be entering 10th grade.

Summer Day Camp Staff
We are currently staffing for the 2024 summer camp season. Day Camp is a six- week program running from July 1, 2024 to August 9, 2024. Work hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday to Friday. There is no camp held on Thursday, July 4th, and Friday July 5th. Staff orientation will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, Thursday June 20, 2024 & Friday, June 21, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Orientation is mandatory, and Staff must be available to attend all orientation dates. College orientation events will be the only acceptable conflict to skip orientation. College visits do not qualify as an acceptable conflict to skip orientation. Orientation dates will be held at the Stephen E. Johnston Beach Pavilion at Harbor Island Park. Camp staff pay rates begin at $15.00 per hour. Harbor Island Park & Stephen E. Johnston Beach
The Stephen E. Johnston Beach and Harbor Island Park parking booth are open seven days a week beginning Friday, May 24, 2024, and close for the season on Monday, September 2, 2024. To be considered for a Lifeguard position, Lifeguards must possess a valid lifeguard certification with waterfront skills.
The following shifts are currently available for the listed positions:
- CASHIERS: TWO SHIFTS DAILY – 8:30 A.M. – 1:00 P.M., 1:00 P.M. – 6:00 P.M.
- BEACH ATTENDANTS: TWO SHIFTS DAILY – 9:00 A.M. – 1:30 P.M., 1:30 P.M. – 6:00 P.M.
- LIFEGUARDS: TWO SHIFTS DAILY – 8:00 A.M – 1:00 P.M., 1:00 P.M. – 6:00 P.M.
- PARKING BOOTH ATTENDANTS: TWO SHIFTS DAILY (MON-THURS) 8:00 A.M. – 2:00 P.M., 2:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M.
- FRIDAY, SATURDAY & SUNDAYS – THREE SHIFTS AVAILABLE – 6:00 A.M. – 11:00 A.M., 11:00 A.M. – 3:30 P.M., 3:30 P.M. – 8:00 P.M.
Active staff for the 2024 season will be given the opportunity to additionally work Recreation special events held throughout the year. Orientation for new hires will be held on Monday, May 20th, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. at the Stephen. E Johnston Beach Pavilion.

Total Body Workout with Joyce - ONGOING
Get fit this year with Joyce! Fitness classes available on Mondays and Thursdays from 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. at the Stephen E. Johnston Beach Pavilion in Harbor Island Park. Learn how to get a total body workout utilizing low impact step toning, circuit training, kick boxing, kettle ball exercises and Tabata. 30 classes are included in the registration fee and all fitness levels are welcome. Weekly STEM Alliance After School Programs - ONGOING
The Village of Mamaroneck Recreation Department and the STEM Alliance are offering a six- week after- school STEM program. The STEM Alliance specializes in developing high quality after-school STEM education programs. The STEM Ever After program is specifically geared towards children in grades K- 2nd. Village of Mamaroneck Tree Law
Trees help sustain an ecological system that provides climatic advantages to people and wildlife alike: cooling the air, buffering the wind and providing a natural barrier to noise. Conserving these natural assets was the impetus behind a decision by the Village of Mamaroneck's Board of Trustees (with support from the Tree Committee) to vote on and enact a new tree law. On October 12, 2021, the Village passed a local law making property owners in the village responsible for the maintenance of trees on their property, including their removal. The penalty for failing to follow this new law is a fine or $1,050 or more. The law is intended to preserve our trees, which provide numerous benefits, including the reduction of air pollution, increase to the tree canopy, and the improvement of the drainage and maintenance of a healthy eco-system. Studies show that a minimum tree canopy cover of 40% is the threshold needed to reap the full benefits of trees. A goal of the Board of Trustees, supported by the Tree Committee, is to achieve this minimum tree canopy coverage and maintain it on an ongoing basis. The Tree Committee as well as the Building Department has put together the following resources to help educate and inform residents about our Village's Tree Law.

As of September 2, Westchester County’s “Upon Request” Law Aimed at Curbing Use of Single-Use Foodware Is Now In Effect
In a significant step towards environmental sustainability, Westchester County is reminding residents and business owners of its "Upon Request" single-use foodware law, which took effect on September 2. This legislation aims to reduce the consumption of single-use plastics by promoting a more mindful approach to their usage within food service establishments by limiting the use of single-use foodware products to only when specifically requested by the customer. Empty Slips at the Marina Available for Rent
Empty slips at the marina for boats of varying sizes are now available for rent. The Village of Mamaroneck Harbor Master oversees and administers all vessels located within the waterways of Harbor Island, assigns each applicant a slip space, and is responsible for maintaining records of dock and mooring assignments. Mamaroneck Residents Deserve Safe Water / Los Residentes de Mamaroneck Merecen Agua
New York State Awards Grant of $30 Million Toward Construction of Rye Lake Water Filtration Plant
MAMARONECK, N.Y. (Dec. 14, 2023) --- Westchester Joint Water Works (WJWW) has been awarded $30 million from New York State toward the construction of its $138 million water filtration plant proposed to be built on land at the Westchester County Airport in the Town/Village of Harrison.
WJWW, a nonprofit public benefit corporation responsible for maintaining a drinking water system for up to 100,000 Westchester County residents, is under state and federal orders to build the plant to filter its Rye Lake water source to ensure the safety and quality of the drinking water it supplies.
Gov. Kathy Hochul announced the award of $479 million in critical water infrastructure projects statewide this week, which included the WJWW grant which was the largest drinking water grant award in the mid-Hudson region.
“We are grateful to Gov. Hochul and New York State for recognizing the importance of ensuring access to clean and safe drinking water for all of our residents, and providing our municipalities with these much-needed resources,” said Paul Kutzy, WJWW Manager. “This funding will help offset the costs associated with building the mandated Water Filtration Plant and in so doing mitigate the impact to ratepayers. Most importantly, the funding helps facilitate safe water for generations to come.”
Penn Station Access Outreach
Penn Station Access is a public works project planned by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA). The goal of the project is to allow Metro-North Railroad commuter trains on the New Haven Line (which includes trains that travel to/from Mamaroneck) to access Penn Station on Manhattan's West Side. Currently, Metro-North trains to/from Mamaroneck can only access Grand Central Terminal on Manhattan's East Side.
