A Note about Village Meetings
As of September 13, 2022, Governor Hochul's Executive Order 11.9, which allowed for the videoconferencing option for public meetings, ended. IN PERSON public meetings of the Village of Mamaroneck (Boards, Commissions, and Committees) are now being held. The elected or appointed members of these public bodies must attend these meetings IN PERSON. When an elected or appointed member of a public body cannot attend the meeting in person, the Village of Mamaroneck may hold remote meetings through the use of videoconferencing per Local Law 4-2022.
Meeting locations can be found on the Village’s online calendar. Members of the public who wish to participate in these meetings may also attend these meetings IN PERSON. Occasionally, and at the discretion of the Chair and/or Trustee Liaison of the public body, videoconferencing (i.e. Zoom) may be available and publicized on the Village’s online calendar should members of the public wish to participate in the meeting through videoconferencing.
As always, meetings for the Village’s Board of Trustee as well as the Land Use Boards (the Board of Architectural Review, the Harbor and Coastal Zone Management Commission, the Planning Board, and the Zoning Board of Appeals) can be viewed on LMC Media or via LMC Media’s YouTube Channel.

All Village offices are closed on Friday, December 23rd. However, normal Friday garbage pickup will take place as scheduled for those households who normally have their garbage picked-up on a Friday. Because of the approaching rainstorm, we recommend waiting until 5:00am on Friday, December 23rd, to bring garbage to the curb. To lookup your garbage/rubbish pickup schedule, visit the Sanitation Pickup Schedule webpage or download the Recycling Right Westchester app from the Apple Store or Google Play Store. You can also lookup your garbage/rubbish pickup schedule here. The Recycling Center, including the Compost Drop-Off Program, at 313 Fayette Avenue is closed. The Marine Education Center at Harbor Island Park is also closed.

FREE 2-Hour Parking from November 23rd until 8:00 am on December 27th. Please shop and support our local businesses in Downtown Mamaroneck!
2-Hour Parking Pay Meters are now bagged on Mamaroneck Avenue and multi-space machines in parking lots are suspended until 8:00am on December 27th. Come to the Avenue and Downtown Mamaroneck to shop and support our local businesses!
(Please note, the 2-hour limit remains in effect. Also, this does not apply to long term parking meters around the Mamaroneck Train Station.)

Second Half of Village Property Taxes Are Due On or Before Tuesday, January 3, 2023
The second half of Village Property Taxes are due on or before Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at 5:00PM. You may pay by mail, in person at 123 Mamaroneck Avenue, or by putting a check with the stub in the supplied envelope in the brown mailbox in front of 123 Mamaroneck Avenue (no stamp required, see photo above). In addition, tax payments that are postmarked by the USPS on January 3, 2023, are also acceptable.

Credit card payments can also be made in-person by Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at Village Hall. For credit card payments made in-person at Village Hall, please note that there is a 3% charge. New York State Boating Class Schedule for 2023 - Begins January 29th
This eight-hour class will give you the knowledge you need to obtain a safety certification. Topics include boating law, boating safety equipment, operating your boat, safe boating tips and emergency procedures. Many boat insurance companies will offer discounts to graduates. Students will receive a Safe Boating Certificate upon successfully completing a 50-question multiple choice test. The class is open to students ages 10 and over. Parents are urged to attend with their children. This class is not required to operate canoes, kayaks, row boats, or sail boats without motors installed.

Village of Mamaroneck Earns National Wildlife Federation Leader Status for Mayors' Monarch Pledge
In 2022, Mayor Tom Murphy signed the National Wildlife Federation's Mayor's Monarch Pledge. The Village of Mamaroneck's Committee for the Environment completed 14 actions to educate residents on the endangered monarch butterfly and the Village has achieved Leader status! 2023 Sanitation Schedule Is Now Available Online
The 2023 Sanitation Calendar is now available online. This one-page overview includes dates when garbage collection is suspended as well as dates for recycling collection, organic waste collection, and loose curbside leaf collection. Please DO NOT put out Leaf Piles after December 26th
The Village's Department of Public Works wants you to know that leaf piles should not be put out after December 26th. Any remaining leaves should be bagged. PLEASE DO NOT RAKE OR BLOW LEAVES INTO THE STREET. Doing so presents a safety hazard and flooding concern when leaves are washed into storm drains.
The Village's Department of Public Works (DPW) Leaf Pickup Schedule for 2022 can be found here. Keep in mind that the although DPW makes every attempt to adhere to this schedule, collection may be a day or two ahead or behind of schedule schedule depending on the weather.
Love the autumn but dread the annual leaf cleanup? This fall season, try something different. Instead of spending untold hours (or dollars) blowing, raking, or dragging leaves, try mulching-in-place. Also, try leaving un-mulched leaves in flowerbeds and under trees. These undisturbed leaves protect beneficial insects like butterflies and fireflies. The Village of Mamaroneck is one of over 22 proud municipalities of the Love 'Em and Leave 'Em initiative. Learn how to reduce organic yard waste from your property by visiting www.leleny.org.
Village of Mamaroneck Tree Law
Trees help sustain an ecological system that provides climatic advantages to people and wildlife alike: cooling the air, buffering the wind and providing a natural barrier to noise. Conserving these natural assets was the impetus behind a decision by the Village of Mamaroneck's Board of Trustees (with support from the Tree Committee) to vote on and enact a new tree law. On October 12, 2021, the Village passed a local law making property owners in the village responsible for the maintenance of trees on their property, including their removal. The penalty for failing to follow this new law is a fine or $1,050 or more. The law is intended to preserve our trees, which provide numerous benefits, including the reduction of air pollution, increase to the tree canopy, and the improvement of the drainage and maintenance of a healthy eco-system. Studies show that a minimum tree canopy cover of 40% is the threshold needed to reap the full benefits of trees. A goal of the Board of Trustees, supported by the Tree Committee, is to achieve this minimum tree canopy coverage and maintain it on an ongoing basis. The Tree Committee as well as the Building Department has put together the following resources to help educate and inform residents about our Village's Tree Law.

Food Scraps Pick Up Program Continues
Residents who live in single-family homes can register for the Food Scraps Pilot Pick-Up Program. To be placed on the food scraps pick-up list (or if you have any questions about the program), please call the Village’s Department of Public Works (DPW) at 914-777-7745. You will be asked to provide your name, address, phone number, and email address. We also put together this webpage to help subscribers prepare their Food Scraps bucket for pickup.
Please note that the Village’s Recycling Center at 313 Fayette Avenue will continue to be CLOSED on Wednesdays.
REMINDER: Food scraps MUST be placed in compostable bags, which must then be placed in a closed container.

Reminder from Westchester County: Check Your Heating Bill!
Westchester County Executive George Latimer is reminding residents to check their heating bill almost a month in to his initiative to suspend sales tax collection on home energy costs from Dec, 1 to Feb. 28. The sales tax suspension covers home heating oil, propane, natural gas, electric, coal and wood for residential heating purposes and covers homeowners as well as rental units. NOTICE: Rising Winter Energy Bills
A Con Edison press release from September 9, identified that energy bills this winter are likely to rise and urged residents to take steps in advance of the winter to conserve energy.
Con Edison estimates that a Westchester County customer using the average of 600 kilowatt hours a month will see an average bill of $203 per month, a 27% increase compared to the $160 bill they would have seen in winter of 2021. A small commercial customer in Westchester using an average of 583 kilowatt hours per month will see an average bill of $238, an increase of 23% compared to the $194 bill they would have seen in winter of 2021.
Con Edison attributes these increased prices to increased costs in the supply of natural gas; power generation plants in our region largely utilize natural gas in order to produce energy.

This press release includes possible resources which customers can rely on, including access to payment plans, discounts for those who receive benefits from certain government programs, energy saving tips, and energy efficiency incentives for upgrades customers make to their homes.
