Resurgence of Antisemitism
The current war between Israel and the terrorist organization Hamas has stirred up many strong opinions and emotions. That is to be expected in a democracy. But what it also has unleashed is blatant and ugly antisemitism. We are seeing this on our college campuses in America and you can hear it both in the words of some and in the silence of others the world over.
In the last few weeks I have spoken to many of our Jewish residents, and faith leaders, who now feel anxious and unsafe even here in the Village of Mamaroneck. This is a tragic situation that should deeply concern us all on a human level. No one in our community should ever live in fear, for any reason.
I want to assure residents that our Police Department is enacting special procedures to protect all houses of worship in the community. We, as a community, will not tolerate antisemitism nor any form of racism or discrimination. We will stand together and look out for one another like good comrades in these difficult days.
If you see or hear something that doesn’t feel or look right report the situation to our Police Department (in whom I have great trust) call them at (914)777-1122 to report suspicious activity. Of course in any emergency call 911.
These are times that try our souls… but we will rise to the occasion by doing what we have always done, looking out for one another and standing by each other.

For Second Year in a Row, Village of Mamaroneck Benefits from Tax Rate Decrease
Wednesday, November 1 (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) – For the second year in a row, Village of Mamaroneck residents are benefiting from a Tax Rate Decrease of 4.193% for the 2023-2024 Budget, with a 5-year average decrease of 2.1116%. Click here to read more.
Village of Mamaroneck Raises Benefits for Volunteer Firefighters Injured In the Line of Duty
Friday, November 3 (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) – The Village of Mamaroneck is raising the benefits for its volunteer firefighters who are injured in the line of duty.
Volunteer Village of Mamaroneck Firefighters injured at a fire (or at any fire department activity) will now receive $1,000 per week, up from $650 a week. The medical expense benefit will be raised from $15,000 to $50,000. And the death benefit will also be raised to $50,000, up from $30,000. Click here to read more.
Village of Mamaroneck Extends Gas to Electric BuyBack Program: Trade-in dates are Friday, 11/03 and Saturday, 11/04
We're happy to announce that 33 vouchers were handed out last month! Based on the popularity of this program, the Village of Mamaroneck is once again offering to buyback combustion engine lawn equipment from Village of Mamaroneck residents. This program will assist in transitioning away from gas-powered equipment by providing a $100 voucher. Funding for this program is provided by New York State's Clean Energy Communities.
Trade-in your gas-powered equipment in return for a $100 voucher – redeemable at KRB Inc. (460 Ogden Ave. in Mamaroneck) or Foley's Hardware (2088 Boston Post Rd. in Larchmont), toward the purchase of electric powered lawn equipment only. A limited number of vouchers are available on a first come, first served basis.

Daylight Saving Time Ends - Sunday, November 5
Before you go to bed on Saturday night, turn your clocks back 1-hour. This is also a good time to test your smoke alarms and change replaceable batteries.
Drowsy Driving Prevention Week November 5 - 11, 2023: “Sleep First. Drive Alert.”
We want to remind all motorists to be aware of the dangers of drowsy driving as the end of Daylight Saving Time approaches. Despite the additional hour gained in the time change, it can disrupt sleep patterns, causing people to feel drowsy. Daylight Saving Time ends at 2 a.m. on Sunday, November 5. The National Sleep Foundation (NSF) uses the occasion to begin its Drowsy Driving Prevention Week®, November 5 to 11. Observed Veterans Day - Friday, November 10
All Non-Emergency Village offices are closed in honor of the observed Veterans Day Holiday on Friday, November 10. (The traditional Veterans Day Holiday is on Saturday, November 11.) There will be no garbage, food scrap, rubbish, or recycling collection on Friday, November 10. In addition, the Recycling Center, including the Compost Drop-Off Program, at 313 Fayette Avenue is closed and the Marine Education Center at Harbor Island Park is also closed. FREE Tennis Clinic at Harbor Island Park - Friday, November 10, 1:30pm - 2:30pm
The Village of Mamaroneck’s Parks and Recreation Department is once again offering FREE tennis clinic lessons at Sportime Harbor Island for Village of Mamaroneck residents ages 5 - 18. Turkey Trot and Gobbler Race - Sunday, November 19
Register by Saturday, November 18 and SAVE!
The Village of Mamaroneck Parks and Recreation Department welcomes runners and spectators for the 57th annual Turkey Trot and Gobbler Race! The event will be held on Sunday, November 19th at Harbor Island Park. Race day registration opens at 8:00am. The 1-mile Gobbler Race will begin at 9:45am and the 5K Turkey Trot will begin after completion of Gobbler Race. All registrants will receive a free t-shirt and medal. 2024 Sanitation Schedule Is Now Available Online
The 2024 Sanitation Calendar is now available online. This one-page overview includes dates when garbage collection is suspended as well as dates for recycling collection, organic yard waste collection, and loose curbside leaf collection. Spotted Lanternfly
Multiple reports from Mamaroneck and all over Westchester of the Spotted Lanternfly have been submitted to the State's Department of Agriculture and Markets
Lycorma delicatula, or Spotted Lanternfly (SLF), is an invasive plant hopper from Asia. In the United States, it was first found in Pennsylvania in 2014. Spotted Lanternfly has been found in New York State. SLF threatens the agriculture and forestry industries, and is also a nuisance pest. The nymphs and adults feed on over 70 different plants with piercing sucking mouthparts.

- You can help the Department of Agriculture and Markets by reporting SLF immediately after it is found. Follow these steps:
- Take a photo
- Collect a sample and place it in a freezer or in a jar with rubbing alcohol or hand sanitizer
- Contact the SLF responders
After you have reported SLF in your area and collected a sample, you should kill any additional SLF you see by stepping on it or crushing it.

Operation of Leaf Blowers is Now Permitted (Until May 14, 2024)
Beginning on October 1st, Leaf Blowers are allowed in the Village of Mamaroneck. The operation of leaf blowers, as per the Village of Mamaroneck's Leaf Blower Law, is permitted from October 1st to May 14, 2024.
Please remember that leaves, clippings, brush, and other small branches should be contained in a biodegradable brown paper bag or open garbage can (with drain holes at the bottom) and placed at the curb. PLEASE DO NOT PILE LEAVES OR GRASS AT THE CURB OR ON MEDIANS OR ISLANDS ON YOUR STREET. The Village's Department of Public Works (DPW) Leaf Pickup Schedule for 2023 can be found here. Please keep in mind that although DPW makes every attempt to adhere to this schedule, collection may be a day or two ahead or behind schedule depending on the weather.

Village of Mamaroneck Tree Law
Trees help sustain an ecological system that provides climatic advantages to people and wildlife alike: cooling the air, buffering the wind and providing a natural barrier to noise. Conserving these natural assets was the impetus behind a decision by the Village of Mamaroneck's Board of Trustees (with support from the Tree Committee) to vote on and enact a new tree law. On October 12, 2021, the Village passed a local law making property owners in the village responsible for the maintenance of trees on their property, including their removal. The penalty for failing to follow this new law is a fine or $1,050 or more. The law is intended to preserve our trees, which provide numerous benefits, including the reduction of air pollution, increase to the tree canopy, and the improvement of the drainage and maintenance of a healthy eco-system. Studies show that a minimum tree canopy cover of 40% is the threshold needed to reap the full benefits of trees. A goal of the Board of Trustees, supported by the Tree Committee, is to achieve this minimum tree canopy coverage and maintain it on an ongoing basis. The Tree Committee as well as the Building Department has put together the following resources to help educate and inform residents about our Village's Tree Law.

As of September 2, Westchester County’s “Upon Request” Law Aimed at Curbing Use of Single-Use Foodware Is Now In Effect
In a significant step towards environmental sustainability, Westchester County is reminding residents and business owners of its "Upon Request" single-use foodware law, which took effect on September 2. This legislation aims to reduce the consumption of single-use plastics by promoting a more mindful approach to their usage within food service establishments by limiting the use of single-use foodware products to only when specifically requested by the customer. Empty Slips at the Marina Available for Rent
Empty slips at the marina for boats of varying sizes are now available for rent. The Village of Mamaroneck Harbor Master oversees and administers all vessels located within the waterways of Harbor Island, assigns each applicant a slip space, and is responsible for maintaining records of dock and mooring assignments. The Mamaroneck Public Library needs your help. The Village of Mamaroneck has agreed to loan the Library $1.4 million to remain open, but the loan will need to be repaid in one year.
